History of women's traditional costume fashion
The Austrian-Bavarian costume can be traced back in its tradition to the 19th century. At that time, the women wore a dirndl because it offered a lot of freedom of movement and looked equally neat. The dirndl was considered workwear. The fabrics were coarser and more resistant than they are today. The décolleté was not emphasized so much. Rather, the woman walked high-necked and hid her charms. This was especially true for women who were married and for widowed women.
Traditional costumes at the Oktoberfests
The Oktoberfest dates back to the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese on 12 October 1810. The then King Max in Bavaria proclaimed the celebrations for the people from which the Oktoberfest developed.
For a long time, the Oktoberfests were concentrated in the southern area and especially in the state of Bavaria. Since the beginning of the 21st century, they have also been celebrated all over the world. The costumes at the festival are very versatile.
